Courage

Aug 23, 2012

Why hello there!

Between camp & work this summer has been a little bit hectic for me. But in comparison to a very close friend of mine, it's been a breeze aha

In just over a week, she is embarking on an 11 month mission trip.

Eleven months. Like, what??

Part of me thinks she's a little nuts haha And part of me thinks that it is SO awesome. I'm in crazy admiration of  her courage and her faith. It will be a life-changing experience and I cannot wait to see how she grows & changes.

Today's post is dedicated to her. For all the adventures she is about to go through and for everything she is going to learn in this next year.

This verse was in a devotional email that I get and it so resonated with me today.

"Be bold and strong! Banish fear and doubt!
For remember, the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9 LB)

You don't need to go around the world to experience adversity, it happens here in our everyday lives. But no matter where we are or what we're dealing with, we don't have to be afraid or discouraged. And that is something to encourage us all.

So here's to all the crazy adventures that life brings our way and the courage to deal with them all :)

Guest Post: The Passionate Peony

Aug 15, 2012

Good morning!

While I'm away at camp, Genevieve offered to guest post! A fellow lover of art & design, I knew her post would be filled with pretty :) You can check out her blog over at The Passionate Peony!

Hello! I'm Genevieve from The Passionate Peony. I am beyond excited to be guest posting here today. Gallery No. Eight was one of the first blogs I came across after entering the blogging world and it has been one of my daily reads ever since!

I thought I would make this post about two of my favorite things: art and design. So, I came up with a moodboard room that I put together, drawing my inspiration from this stunning print…

Chickadee Love by Teva Gallery

I fell in love with every part of it, from the bold color scheme to the quirky boho vibe, and I hope that this room looks like a 3-D version of the piece...

Thanks again to Brittany for having me! I hope you've enjoyed the post, and I would love for you to come visit me at The Passionate Peony.

Thankyou Genevieve! Love finding new Etsy shops to drool over :)

Hope you're all having a lovely week!!

Mint Love

Aug 13, 2012

Good morning!

My mint skirt find last week has had me dreaming of mint all week, so I thought I'd share my favourite finds :)

Mint Stripe Paper Straws
Green Vintage Camera Watercolour Print
Mint & Gold Interlocking Bracelet
Green Striped Silk Pillow
Mint Julep Owls
In case you missed it last week, I was guest posting over on Stephanie's blog! She invited me to join her new series, The Gratefulness Tag, and I was honoured to join & share! You can check it out right here :) Steph is one of those truly lovely people that inspire and encourage, and I was so honoured she asked me to participate!

I'm away at camp this week (snuck in some scheduled post before I left!) but I hope you all have a lovely week!

Currently Loving, Vol 7

Aug 10, 2012

Hello hello!

The past few days have straight up felt like fall to me. And I am totally loving it! So ready for the nasty heat & humidity to take a hike and for cool breezes and rainy days to take their place :)

Maybe it was Natalie's post where she said her brain was in late September mode, or Mackenzie's post asking readers to spill their favourite thing about fall, but I am totally on the fall bandwagon. September can't come fast enough!

But for right now, this is what I'm loving:

This song was on Rookie Blue last night (please tell me I'm not the only one that watches it hahaha) and has been on repeat all morning. Totally in love.

Possibly adding to my September-feeling-brain, all the rain we've been having! SO glad it's finally raining, we were in desperate need of some good showers and it's been raining since yesterday morning! Does anyone else love that smell after it rains? One of my favourite things :)

via
Maybe the only thing that is still in summer mode - my nails. Loving loving neons & brights! But, bright nails totally work with the duller, deeper hues in fall right? I'm just going to go with that hahaha

via
Circle prints. Must. own. one. soon. Love the look of circle prints in square/rectangular frames. And isn't this one so awesome? Love!

And of course, last but not least, the Olympics!! I definitely remember the Beijing Olympics, and have vague memories of Olympics before then, but it was really at the Vancouver Olympics that I got my Olympic spirit on and I just can't get enough of them! And those cheesy montages they put together? Totally for saps like me. I tear up every. time. Fairly pathetic, but what can I say? I love a good Olympic montage :)

And that's it for me this week! What are you currently loving??

Rearview Mirrors

Aug 8, 2012

Everyone goes through tough times at one point or another. And one day, maybe weeks, months, or years later, you will look back and maybe see the reason why. And it will all make sense, this often bumpy road called life.

But in the moment, sometimes it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. To see the good in the bad, the beauty in the ugly. But it is there, I promise you that. There is always something good on it's way :)

What is your favourite passage/verse/quote/book/thought that gets you through those tough times?

Life Lately

Aug 7, 2012

Good morning!

Well, in the week and a bit since I last posted, lots has been happening! The launch of Helen & Jayne has been postponed for a bit due to some personal issues in my friends family. They're a pretty private bunch, so I don't want to share too much, but if you could keep them in your prayers that would be very much appreciated :)

In other news, I forgot how much I love Forever 21. No, for reals. I haven't been to one in a few months because there isn't one where I live (this is when I miss the big city...) but I took the afternoon off yesterday (since it was a holiday here) and went shopping with the family (brother needed back to school clothes).

Now, my brother is not much of a shopper. And since I did go to help him (I'm his stylist hehe), I didn't do much shopping for myself, but F21 always gets me. I dragged him in, parked him on a bench and went in search of treasures :) Didn't take long before I spotted this beauty and knew it would be coming home with me haha

Mmmm...makes me smile just looking at it :)
Isn't it gorgeous?? The most perfect shade of mint (makes my wimpy tan look pretty legit) and the pleats are beautiful. You can buy it online here (comes in blue, white and pink too! only saw mint and pink in the store). The mint colour looks a little wonky online, but I promise it's lovely in person!

I was also tempted by a pleated royal blue dress, but then I remembered that I already had a royal blue dress. And a royal blue maxi skirt. And some royal blue jeans. I think I found my colour weakness, eh? haha

The royal blue jeans in question. And I'm quite proud of that sandal tan hahaha

In design news, I'm still debating what colour to paint my walls. I originally wanted a very light grey, but now I'm kind of thinking that a darker grey might be kind of cool....

The debate continues...

But I did snap some Instagram shots of my room the other day when the light was all pretty :)

Where I do my morning reading :)
Wall of pretties! Love waking up and looking at this every morning :)
And that's all I've got for now haha To keep up with my latest adventures, you can follow me on Instagram (brittdouglas8). I need to get one of those web-instagram thingies...does anyone use one and like it?

I'm hoping to post a bit more regularly this week. Last week was a bit of a mess, but things seem to have calmed down if just for now :)

Hope you're having a lovely week!!
