Artist Feature: Nicole White

I am so thrilled to share Nicole White's work with you today! Her store, Designs by Nicolina, has been open for over 4 years and has over 7000 sales - congrats Nicole! I loved her style the minute I saw her store and I hope you enjoy today's interview & feature :)

What inspired you to open your shop?
I was going to school to become a graphic designer, when my best friend got engaged. During the process of planning her shower, and looking for invites I wasn't impressed and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, so I created some. The guests loved them so much I decided to open an Etsy shop. I was 19 years old and it started with 5 invites and no clue about what I was doing. It has since evolved for sure, and now it is what my husband and I do full time.

What is the process of creation like?
I take inspiration from a lot of things. I have always been in love with vintage advertising posters, bold prints and typography. Sometimes my prints and invites come from things I have sketched or fully thought out and others are totally spur of the moment ideas that I just have to sit down and make them come to life.

Good Things Come to Those Who Hustle
So much of your work features awesome type, do you have a favourite font?
I have kind of a font problem! I am loving In and Out script right now. It is very old school script typography and goes well with lots of block fonts. I really love mixing fonts, especially TREND; I use some elements of that in my logo.

See Life Through You Coloured Glasses
Is there a cool back-story behind one of your prints?
I think everyone has times that they struggle with feelings of inadequacies or negativity, and I had kind of an ah-ha moment when I realized that happiness finds happy people. If you strive to look for the good, and be happy you will be a happy person!

A Macaron Afternoon
What is your favourite item in your store?
I think right now it is the print I just mentioned, happiness finds happy people. It changes on a daily basis but right now that one really speaks to me!

What's next for you & your shop?
We have a really big Indie Fair in Atlanta, Georgia coming up at the end of June that we are prepping for. It is the hardest show to get into that we have applied to and we got in! So we are excited for that. We are also working on expanding our line, so hopefully some screenprinted items very soon!

Thankyou so much Nicole! I love that quote, - "happiness finds happy people" - so true! Joy & gratefulness are so often overlooked, but are so important (and something I'm always working on!)
