All Yellow

Well, it's not quite all yellow. But my newly painted stool is mostly yellow :)

Para Paints sent me a sample of Plantain Chips (their 2014 Colour of the Year) several months ago now, and I was stumped. Yellow is just not a colour I gravitate towards at all.

And so it sat, waiting. I debated doing something with it on a huge canvas, but wasn't sure what to paint. And so the can of yellow sat patiently waiting.

I've had this little stool for ages. It's plain, solid wood top and off-white legs had both seen better days and were screaming for some attention. And one day I clued in - this could be my yellow project!

So I busted out the sandpaper, some primer (just some spray stuff for the wood top) and got to work! The white paint is actually ceiling/trim paint from Para as well - it was in our BlogPodium bags. It was a lovely crisp white, perfect to go with the bold yellow :)

I did wonder about taping off the legs and doing a more colour-blocked look, but it would have taken forever to tape off 4 legs at the exact same height and I wanted it to be more fun.

While it was still disassembled, I painted the top slab, top 'brace' bits, and the top chunk of the legs in yellow (after giving them a coat of white.) I sort of stopped a bit above where I wanted the yellow to end, let it dry, and then did the paint drips. I watered down the paint so it would drip a bit faster, and then just dabbed it on with the end of a small paintbrush. Nothing very scientific I'm afraid!

I added more paint to some drips and less to others, and let the paint go where it wanted. I tried to keep it less fussy and more free form.

I did touch up a few spots after, but for the most parts the drips did their thing. The solid yellow bits took maybe 3 coats? I wanted to be sure everything was covered. It went on so smoothly though that I didn't mind.

That sad little stool? Is very happy now indeed :) And it looks so good with my grey walls.

Well Plantain Chips, I think you've converted me to yellow. Maybe not everywhere, but definitely in fun little spots like this!

Where do you stand on yellow? Would you ever use a colour like this?

Pink & Turquoise Love

Good morning!

I have loved this colour combo since I saw Eileen Kathryn Boyd's space in Lonny's December 2010 issue.

And when Michaela pinned the image below last night, it reminded just how much I adore this combo!

So I thought a little roundup of my favourite pink & turquoise spaces was in order :)

Such a happy and cheerful combo! What colours are you loving lately?

Hope you have a lovely day!!

Crushing on Coral

Good morning!

After yesterday's crazy temperature of 9 degrees (!!!! I've had snow days in April before, so 9 degrees in February is nuts!) I am itching for spring!! And all this lovely coral-ness is just perfect to tide me over :)

I love when you can incorporate a colour into any aspect of your life: beauty, fashion, food or home. I think I need more coral in my life!

Aqua/Robin's Egg/Mint/Jade/Turquoise

Whatever name you like to give it, I love it!!!

This colour family is possibly my absolute favourite colour. It is so flattering on me and I love how it's sort of seasonless, depending on the shade you choose. And it goes with gold & silver. This colour can do no wrong in my books.

The pants above are from Forever 21. And they are calling my name. I've never owned bright skinnies, I don't even know if they'll suit me, but I don't know if I can pass these ones up! I can picture them with so many outfits.

What are your thoughts on this colour family? What's your favourite??

Trust

Good evening!

I actually pulled all the images for this post last week, but it was gold week so I couldn't share it then. Seems even more appropriate now with Tangerine Tango being the colour of the year and all :)

With the end of this semester so very close, the realization that I have ONE semester left of university blows my mind. In some ways, I don't feel very different from the young 17-year old that started 3 years ago, but in other ways, I know I've changed a lot. With graduation less than 6 months away, thoughts of what to do after have started spinning. It doesn't help that so so many people have been asking me what I'm going to do.

But I'm going to pray & trust that God has a plan for me and it's going to be pretty awesome :)

Hope your week is going well friends! Any advice to give on this strange transition time in life?

Colour Love: Slate

Good afternoon!

Found a few minutes before I run away for the weekend, so I thought I would share some inspirations.

After yesterday's post on slate blue, it's really been speaking to me! I love the feel it gives a space: slighty moody & edgy, but still a little soft. And paired with gold just makes it even prettier :)

Thoughts on slate? With gold? Love it or hate it?

Hope you've had a great week and have a fabulous weekend!

Bit of Blue

Good evening!!

I spent a couple hours minutes browsing the Tiffany & Co. website today and remembered again how much I adore the Tiffany blue colour. I own several nailpolishes in the colour range and am always drawn to it when it's an option for something. So I thought I would do a little post on some pretty Tiffany blue things :)

Of course I had to include some Tiffany in there :)

Hope you're having a lovely week!

Block it Out

Good evening!

A big trend that's come and gone in recent years, and is currently back in is colour-blocking. I think this look is fabulous and is such a fun way to introduce bold colour into a space.

And if you're feeling a little more daring:

Love those cabinets. If you had guests over and they were looking for something you could just be like, "It's in the blue cabinet." That would be kinda awesome haha

Hope you're all having a great week!
