Weekend Reading

Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine was pretty good :) My best friend is home from the UK for Christmas!! We're meeting up for dinner tomorrow night to celebrate my mom's birthday and I'm tagging along to her wedding dress shopping appointments next week (this is the friend I'm throwing the shower for!) so that will be really fun!

I haven't done a roundup of links in a little while, and there's a few posts recently that have stood out to me:

Terminal Cancer Wasn't In My Plans - so heartbreaking and yet she is so positive & inspiring.

+ I've been trying to implement new schedules & goals for my work days, and Lara's post on how she gets things done is really fascinating (I've told you I love behind-the-scenes stuff, right?)

How to Write an Irresistible About Page - need/want to rework mine!

Why Wedding Photograher's Prices Are "Wack" - I don't know if I agree 100% with everything said in the article, but I think it's a really important perspective to keep in mind when looking at hiring a creative professional in any field, whether design, photography, art, etc.

+ Sara is one of my past clients that's turned into a friend, and watching her go from planning to launching her new wedding business, Top Knot Events, has been really inspiring! You can read more about her journey on Saige Wisdom.

+ Kind of in keeping with the 'getting things done' link above, The Case for Having No Goals really spoke to me and re-emphasized a lot of the things Lara mentioned. How do you 'get things done'?

+ The best friend I mentioned above has chosen a dark hunter green for her wedding colour, and while I know she's not really into pink, I still adore the combination of emerald & pink!

+ I shared this post on Twitter, but Jen's post 'Holiday Decorating Using Chalk Ink' is too good not to share again!

+ Youth Groups Driving Christian Teens to Abandon Faith - Another post that I don't know if I agree with 100%, but it still fascinated me.

In case you missed it on the blog this week:
Mint + Ampersands
Holiday Party Planning
Post-Conference: 2 Month Check-In

And if you need a laugh this weekend, this should do the trick: 'Not My Arms' Challenge

Finally, a quote I saw online that took a minute to sink in: It is not abstinence from pleasures that is best, but mastery over them without being worsted. - Aristippus

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

A magical creation from the genius that is Jamie & Kevin
Another week has come to an end! It's always busy coming back after a week away and playing catch-up, but I love the people I work with and that makes it so much easier! Wanted to share some of my favourite things from these past few weeks:

I've written before about my love of Jamie Beck (Ann Street Studio), but her site is full of so much gorgeousness I need to share it again! She posted the cinemagraph above earlier this week and then posted the making-of a few days later. I mean, she and her husband/partner Kevin are just photographic geniuses. Love every post they share!

I have all the ingredients and I'm dying to make these cookies! The perfect weekend project :)

I have a post stored away in my drafts about being an introvert that I need to finish & post one of these days (I like to think first and write later), but this article rings so true.

Interesting discussion on Gen-Y. This thought stuck with me: "Throughout our lives we followed the prescribed roadmap to success, only to face an economic climate where it no longer applied."

This article is a few weeks old, but I still wanted to share it because it has some really insightful thoughts on 20-year-olds today. Lots of good discussion surrounding my age group lately...

After photo from this experiment coming soon...

And a little bit of pretty for your weekend, these abstract paintings by Michaela are so lovely :)

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Stop & Smell The Peonies Print
Been a busy week over here! Had to reupload a lot of my files because I was having some issues with photobucket, so that took up most of Tuesday/Wednesday (hence no blog post) and yesterday/this morning I've been busy painting some weasels eating pizza for a children's book (it makes more sense in context haha). Looking forward to spending the night with my mama & having a relaxing weekend :)

This week I've been loving:

+ You've probably seen it floating somewhere around blogland, but Stephanie & Anna's peony creation is so lovely, I had to share it again :)

+ Etsy has a Canadian affiliate program & Jen explains just how it works!

+ I have a serious crush on huge covered wrap-a-round porches, and this post from Michelle is not helping!

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Currently Loving, Vol 10

Thought I'd change up the usual Friday post & share some things I'm currently loving :)

+ eos lip balms - I have a small army of these and they're SO handy to keep in different places: purses/clutches/bedside/vanity. The odd shape is helpful when digging in the bottomless pit of purses haha

+ lemon & mint water - SO good! I'm not a cucumber fan, so I've been loving this combo to liven up plain water

+ big brother - fine, it's my secret summer tv show (shhh! haha) not too sure about the cast this season but it's early yet

+ planning a summer design service sale :) be sure to stop by next week!!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Currently Loving, Vol. 9

Good morning!

Feeling a bit tired this morning (and oh so glad it's Friday!) so I thought I would share some things I am currently loving :) (My next Gift Guide will be up on Monday!)

Love the idea of storing nail polish in apothecary jars. Not all of mine would fit in one jar, but I could display some of my current favourites :) They're currently stored in some tins from Ikea, but I like this idea much better!

Did any of you remember those I SPY books? Me and my brother used to LOVE them as kids and this Christmas tree has I SPY written all over it :)

It was so nice out yesterday that I wore flats! It's like a month until Christmas and it's warm enough to wear flats! Like, what? haha I was super excited to wear these ones because I bought them a few weekends ago from Bass in the US. Super comfy & super cute :)

And that is all for today! What are you currently loving?

Currently Loving, Vol 8

Why hello there! Long time no see friends!

Can't believe it's been two months since my last post...craziness!

Just wanted to pop in, say hello!, let you know I'm still alive & well, and share some things that I'm loving lately :)

Fall! The leaves, the smells, the colours, love everything about this time of year!

Creative & inspiring workspaces...mine is lacking at the moment and I really want/need a designated, proper place to work from.

Warm drinks (tea, apple cider, hot chocolate, so many options!!) & yummy treats :)

Cozy & inviting rooms with fireplaces, squishy couches, and lots of books!

And some wise words that I need to remind myself of more often.

Hope you are all doing well!!

Currently Loving, Vol 7

Hello hello!

The past few days have straight up felt like fall to me. And I am totally loving it! So ready for the nasty heat & humidity to take a hike and for cool breezes and rainy days to take their place :)

Maybe it was Natalie's post where she said her brain was in late September mode, or Mackenzie's post asking readers to spill their favourite thing about fall, but I am totally on the fall bandwagon. September can't come fast enough!

But for right now, this is what I'm loving:

This song was on Rookie Blue last night (please tell me I'm not the only one that watches it hahaha) and has been on repeat all morning. Totally in love.

Possibly adding to my September-feeling-brain, all the rain we've been having! SO glad it's finally raining, we were in desperate need of some good showers and it's been raining since yesterday morning! Does anyone else love that smell after it rains? One of my favourite things :)

Maybe the only thing that is still in summer mode - my nails. Loving loving neons & brights! But, bright nails totally work with the duller, deeper hues in fall right? I'm just going to go with that hahaha

Circle prints. Must. own. one. soon. Love the look of circle prints in square/rectangular frames. And isn't this one so awesome? Love!

And of course, last but not least, the Olympics!! I definitely remember the Beijing Olympics, and have vague memories of Olympics before then, but it was really at the Vancouver Olympics that I got my Olympic spirit on and I just can't get enough of them! And those cheesy montages they put together? Totally for saps like me. I tear up every. time. Fairly pathetic, but what can I say? I love a good Olympic montage :)

And that's it for me this week! What are you currently loving??

Currently Loving Vol. 6

Well hello there!

It's been a little while friends! And I wish I could say I've been off on wonderful crazy adventures, but it's been a bit more mundane I'm afraid! Moving home, working away, reading new books, graduating university (okay, that one was a little exciting :D), and spending lots of time with family & friends.

Have been a little silent over here and on twitter, but you can always find me on Instagram under brittdouglas8. (Expect lots of kitties and nails hahaha)

But while I've been away, I've been finding lots and lots of good things! Here are just a few of the things I cannot get off my mind lately:
Moths by Sarah Burwash
Paolo Roversi Series 1 by Leigh Viner

Fortune Favors the Brave by Alyssa Nassner
Fur Collar Attitude by Blair Breitenstein
Home by Tad Carpenter
1. Gradient, grey, butterflies (moths, whatever.), all put together in a circle print?? Totally mine!! (also currently the background of my iPad haha)

2. Have loved this from the moment Leigh first posted it. She had it up in her shop for a while, but it's gone now and I am regretting not grabbing this beauty!!

3. Mmmmm...that's all I have to say about this one. Love the quote, the colours, the design, love it all!

4. A recent introduction by the fabulous Christine, this piece of Blair's is calling my name!

5. Loved this when it first appeared, but it got lost in the sea that is Pinterest. Recently rediscovered and am seriously considering buying. If only the shipping wasn't as much as the print :|

I've missed you guys! What are you loving lately??

Update: Leigh's piece, Paolo Roversi Series 1, is back up in her shop :) Planning my next order already aha

Currently Loving Vol. 5

Good evening!

Haven't done one of these posts in a while! And I was in the mood :)

I have been drinking TONS of tea lately :) Started last weekend when we were up at camp and I was helping in the kitchen. The head cook is from Scotland and loves her tea! She constantly had a pot of tea on and it was always tea time :) And then this week I've started making mini pots for myself in the morning, and putting some milk in a little creamer and finding a comfy seat to do some morning work in. It's been rather fabulous :)

This has also been happening to my hair a lot lately. Except a little more messy. (ok fine. WAY more messy haha) The little braid around it is quite cute and I'm thinking I need to try it :)

Totally wish I was spending my weekend in a little stone cottage. Preferably in England, but I'll take rural Ontario :)

And if you haven't heard already, I'm hosting a giveaway over on Barbara's blog! You could win a new header & button OR a total blog redesign for 50% off!! There's also a code for 15% off to all of Barbara's readers :) You can click the link above or the button in the sidebar!

Hope you have a lovely weekend!!

Currently Loving Vol. 4

Good evening!

I had this whole fun post planned about a piece of art I recently found, but I decided that can wait until tomorrow, because I'm feeling like another Currently Loving post :)

A beautiful workspace with a slightly French feel? All over it!

Pretty silver jewelry box, you must be mine.

And a mantra that I just love. So simple, yet so good.

So what are you currently loving??

Currently Loving Vol. 3

Good evening!

I hope you've had a good week! I know I'm very glad it's Friday haha :D

Just wanted to share a few things that were inspiring me this week!

MUST go to NYC soon! This photo is too gorgeous.
Love everything about this bedroom; colour, architecture, fireplace, bedframe, floors, love it!

And this quote. I think it's pretty much all you need :)

I hope you have a lovely weekend :)
