Cozy Neutrals

I used to do these kind of posts all the time (see them here), but I fell away from it. It does seem kind of silly to design hypothetical rooms, but this space has everything I would put into a room if I could - lots of grey, good reading chair, mixed metals, pretty pillows, and a little bit of shimmer (those curtains !!).

And when I finished, I realized it is the 'interior' version of my new blog design launching in a few days :)

As a designer, I'm probably my own worst client. I spend my days surrounded by fonts & colours, so when it comes to picking those things for myself, it's so hard to narrow it down. I think I've finally hit the winning combo though with lots of neutrals, a few classics and some whimsy & shimmer. I can't wait to share!!

Design-by-Room: Sunny Patio

Good morning!

Thankyou for all your sweet comments on yesterday's post! They were all very appreciated :)

Today's room design is just a quick one as yesterday I twisted my foot and now have a 'deep tissue injury'. Fun. So I'm resting as much as possible this morning and hopefully I can make it to all of your blogs later on :)

I kept the palette to just really simple browns and yellows and greens, but tried to include some really great patterns. There's a few morrocan-y accents with the lanterns and table which I thought was really fun. Would be lovely to spend all day out here :)

Hope you're all having a lovely week!

Design-by-Room: Tight & Bright

Good morning!

I had zero ideas for today's post, so I went looking for a fabulous rug. Sometimes it's a rug, sometimes it's a duvet, sometimes a sofa, but it's always fabulous. And then I design a room around it! Today's room I imagine in a smaller space, an apartment maybe, or a small condo. Tight on space, bright in colour, just the right mix :)

When I chose this rug, I knew I wanted to create a fun room. Lots of pink and orange. But the right pink was harder to find than one might think, so I decided on a little yellow as well.

The sofa and the floor lamp both have really clean straight lines, whereas the chair and side table have some curves. I also kept the sofa neutral so it could be moved to another design easily. But I had to have the orange chair!

To keep sightlines free-r, I chose a clear coffee table, which if you tilt your screen right, you can see just between the rug and fringy yellow pillow. I also wanted the rug to be the main pattern in the room, so the clear table allows you to see it a lot more than a traditional coffee table would.

I imagine the pink pillow and the throw on the couch, with maybe one of the yellow pillows. And the other yellow pillow (or both perhaps) on the orange chair.

Love? Hate? Wanna move right in?

Hope you're having a lovely week :)

Design-by-Room: All Day Bedroom

Good morning!

Today I was feeling like a bright & colourful bedroom. I feel like I've been doing a lot of neutral rooms. So I found the red linen cabinet and the red & turquoise bedding and went with it. I actually quite like how it turned out, and this colour combo is really gorgeous!

I really liked the pillow combo with the duvet, and they'd look fab all piled up on the daybed. I thought the creamy Bone Jaipur fabric would make some gorgeous window coverings and not compete with the other colours/patterns in the room. And how gorgeous is that herringbone throw??

I kind of kept all the furniture pretty neutral, so it could be easily moved to another room. Or you could switch up all the fabrics and have a totally new look!  I really liked the Anthro chair because the flowers were similar with the flowers in the duvet. And the urchin lamp was a subtle hint to the flower pattern, as the curves sort of mimicked the duvet flowers, if that makes sense haha

And I named this room the 'All Day Bedroom' because I would want to spend all day in it! haha

Hope you're all having a fab week!

Design-by-Room: Chic Storage

Good morning!!

Hope everyone had a lovely long weekend!

Today's room design is a little jewelry area! My jewelry is currently jammed into one tiny box which is not conducive to finding anything quickly haha

I chose the IKEA Edland, but you could use any low dresser or chest of drawers. And Umbra, I heart you. But your website is not my favourite.

I really wanted to keep it very simple, so that the jewelry could stand out. Because some jewelry is like a work of art. And you don't want your jewelry storage to take away from that. So a palette of white, acrylic & silver was perfect.

What do you currently have your jewelry stored in?

Design-by-Room: Outdoor Retreat

Good morning!

We've been having some gorgeous weather over here so I thought it was about time to design an outdoor space!

I took inspiration from all the bright colours in the Anthro rug and created a little outdoor reading/relaxing area. A rug may not be the most practical thing outdoors, but as long as you check the weather forecast it'll be fine haha

Hope you're all having lovely weather wherever you may be!

Design-by-Room: Cocoa & Hearts

Morning!

In honour of Jen's new shop Cocoa & Hearts opening yesterday, I thought I'd design a room around one of her paintings :)

I decided to create a little entry room area. Comfy chair to sit and put your shoes on, tray to put your keys & mail in, lamp light to greet you when you walk in after everyone's gone to bed, wishbone for good luck :)

Any of C&B's Nolan pillows would work really well in this space, but there was just something that I liked about the pink and green. The blue was a close second though haha

If the weather cooperates, I will have a DIY to show you tomorrow! I'm excited :)

Hope you're all having a lovely week!

Design-by-Room: Chic Retreat

Good morning!

Today's bedroom inspiration is actually a room I put together for my mama! This is how I would design her room if she'd let me haha

Very pretty and soft with a a little glamour and luxury :) Purple is a colour I've always associated with my mom, so I knew I had to include that. And the safari rug is kinda fun when paired with the more classic pieces. Love the copper clad dresser from Anthro & the ceramic stool/table from West Elm. Very chic :)

Would just like to thank you all for the lovely comments this past week. I haven't had a chance to respond to any, but I do read and appreciate every one! My exams finish tomorrow evening and then I am done :D Very much looking forward to putting more time into my blog! And I have some exciting news in the coming weeks, so be sure to stay tuned for that :)

Hope you're all having a lovely week!!

Design-by-Room: Refined Rustic

Good morning!

I saw those words "refined & rustic" on blogland earlier this week, and I thought that they sort of summed up my design style pretty well. One part rustic vintage + one part refined pretty + one part country classic + however I'm feeling that day haha

I found these tumblers and decided to create a little refined/rustic bar vignette around them.

I really like the mix of the dark table and crate underneath with the pretty gold and pink pieces on top. All set in front of that gorgeous wallpaper. I kind of like the idea of a floor lamp beside the console in a dark wood, with maybe an off-white shade on it? But one that would lean over the table, not just stand straight beside it, if you know what I'm talking about haha

I think it's Urban Outfitters that has a gorgeous pale pink velvet chaise. Can you picture the photo shoot?

Pink chaise. Model in an off white flowy dress with a gold spotted tumbler in hand. Bar area off to the side. Dark rustic wood floors. Soft walls and big open windows with flowy curtains in background. Oui?

Hope you all have a lovely day :)

Design-by-Room: Rose Garden

Good morning!

Today's room was inspired by the gorgeous rug in the centre! I pulled the colours and made a sort of sitting-room-office-thing haha

And I really really wanted a pink lamp. But I couldn't find one, so this pink candleholder will have to do :)

I think I would paint the room beige. But that seems kinda boring, so maybe a pale grey? Definitely a neutral as there's so many colours in the room already.

I also went a little pillow crazy hehe
But I can picture the navy & orange pillows on the yellow chesterfield and the turquoise & small sparkly one on the green chair. Or maybe the navy & turquoise on the chesterfield and the navy on the green chair and the sparkly on the desk chair? Many pretty options :)

Hope you all have a lovely day!

Design-by-Room: Pretty in Pink

Morning!!

Today's room board was inspired by the gorgeous piece of art in the middle from 1stdibs. Pink isn't usually my go-to colour, but I LOVE it here with grey and soft green and red. Makes it less girly & cute and more glamourous & chic!

I had considered putting this JA pillow in, but it just didn't feel right. The colours may be different in person though.

Let's just talk about that clock for a minute. I ADORE gigantic clocks, and at 5 feet, this one is definitely huge! I picture it behind the sofa, with the artwork on the opposite wall.

The pillows I chose because of their colour and texture, and you know, who doesn't love a monogrammed pillow? haha

Jonathan Adler's lacquer tables are so fab. Love them stacked like this as a side table!

I think the library ladder gives it a bit of an industrial feel. But the pink makes it soft and pretty :)

Like it? Hate it? Love it?

Design-by-Room: Silver Grey

Good morning!!

Today is a special edition of Design by Room, as this is the plan for my bedroom! I know I've showed my plans before, but this a complete overhaul and I am so ridiculously happy with this plan!

1. Twilight Blue, 2. Edinburgh Windows, 3. The Royal Mile, 4. SEVEN, 5. bookcase idea, 6. IKEA Edland bedframe, 7. IKEA Byholma chest, 7. IKEA Virserum frame, 8. IKEA Ribba frame, 9. silver leaf lamp idea, 10. Farrow & Ball in Lamp Room Gray, Manor House Gray, French Gray & Savage Ground.

Okay, so. Artwork. 1-3 I've had open in tabs for over a week now. WANT. Perfect for my colour scheme and I adore them! I already have a frame for 1, and 2&3 will go in either white or aluminum frames. But I'm thinking white, because I might have another piece that would look ah-mazing in an aluminum frame. 4 is sold out, so I'm going to paint some sort of version myself :D

I want that bedframe. And I'm going to put curtains on it and make it pretty and comfy and oh-so-fabulous :D

I'm undecided about the chest. I love it and the colour and I have a spot for it in my mental floorplan, but ...? Not sure. Thoughts?

My bookcase is currently colour-coordinated, but I'm thinking of turning all the books around so the pages face out instead of the spine. Good or bad idea?

For lamps, my mom has these old dated (mint-green) lamps that are getting some silver leaf and new shades. And I also have a ceiling light/fan that is staying. (old house + bad windows/insulation + hot, humid summers = ugly fan is necessary)

And I also might be getting the new For Like Ever print. Because it's in grey!!! So friggin' awesome. My only problem is a frame. It needs a 24x36" (or 60x90cm) frame. And IKEA doesn't have any that size. Any thoughts on where to find one? It's standard poster size I believe.

All of my current bedroom furniture, which includes dresser, desk, bookcase, and a weird desk-shelf-add-on-thing is white. And I also have a gallery wall of old vintage frames in white.

For paint colour, my carpet is similar to Savage Ground, and I'm liking Lamp Room Gray & Manor House Gray. French Gray is leaning too green for my liking. I don't want the grey to be too dark, but I also want it to be different enough from the white trim in the room. I have 2 massive doors, a massive window, and 1' high baseboards around the entire room. Any colour suggestions?

Okay, I think that was everything. Any thoughts, suggestions, or comments are very welcome!!

I'm kinda super excited to get started on this when school is done! 4 more weeks to go :D

OH! And before I forget, be sure to check me out on twitter!! It's brand new and I'm kinda excited :)
