Backyard Updates

You may remember me mentioning our backyard-spruce-up-project a few weeks ago, and today I have some photos to share!

This is the view out our back door onto the deck and the yard beyond. The patio stones (at the bottom of the steps) are new, as are the garden beds along either side. Well, they were there before but looked a little overgrown and shabby. Such an improvement! (I kind of love this photo - the raindrops in focus look so cool!)

If you walk past the deck and around the corner, there's a fence and gate covered in grape vines haha We've planted some wisteria (you can see it in the bottom right) to hopefully grow in and around the vines.

They grow like weeds, but I think forget-me-nots are so sweet! They're the prettiest blue and they look lovely in (controlled) patches :)

Our new tree! I think it's a Japanese Maple and hopefully when it grows a little it will offer some privacy for the deck. It's such a lovely contrast to all the green.

And finally, what might be one of my favourite details, the garden boots! Some family friends came to help with our garden and they brought these old boots with them (the soles are worn out). We filled them with succulents and sat them on a tree stump beside the patio. They just make me smile :)

I am also happy to report that my little herb garden is doing quite well! The basil is thriving and I've been including it in everything lately. The mint is also super happy (it's pretty hard to kill) and I'm thinking I need to make some lemon & mint water soon :)

How are your outdoor spaces looking? Do you have a little herb garden too?

Old Stone House

Good evening!

I think Tuesday is going to be Home Day. I'm almost positive, but it may change. And what better way to kick off Home Day than with some of the most beautiful home exteriors.

Newer home certainly have their benefits, but for me, I simply adore a home with character, and that is one quality that is hard to find in a new build. I love old houses with massive baseboards and heating grates. With their odd little noises and personality quirks. Things like that turn some people off, but I would take a slight draft in my home over a white box any day.

Are you a lover of old homes too?

Magical Snow

Good evening!

The past couple of days have consisted of me not doing very much of anything. With exams and essay due dates looming, life just seems to get put on hold for a brief time. But one thing has me very excited for the end of school,

SNOW!

Now, I know what you're thinking. And trust me, I dislike it too. But for those first few weeks, when it transforms the bleak grey & brown of the city into a white wonderland, I adore it!

And then by January it can melt ASAP please&thankyou.

Anyone else excited for the first snow? I'm secretly hoping it happens on my birthday :)

Long Weekend Goodness

Good evening friends!

This weekend is a long one, as it is Thanksgiving on Monday! And I have an extra long weekend because I don't have class on Tuesday's this semester (more time to gorge on yummy food at home!). And while we may not be going up north, just being here at home with my family is enough for me :)

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, whether it's a holiday or not :)

After the Rain

Yesterday, it just rained all day. There was just this constant drizzle falling from the sky.

But there's always that smell after it rains. Do you know what I mean? The city smells clean again :)

So even if I'm not in the country, I can pretend that I am.

Today, it's blue skies and sun again. That bright, warm sunshine that always seems to come after it rains.

Hope your week is going well :)
